The SUMITOMO 1N6C005 is a CCGT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral hand orientation, making it suitable for both external and internal turning operations. The insert carries the AC6030M manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied coating and a positive rake geometry. Key dimensions include a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.1563-inch thickness, and a 0.0039-inch corner radius. The MESI chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces in demanding applications. Installation and toolholder selection are handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for turning stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group M. The positive rake and MESI chip breaker combination supports controlled chip evacuation at moderate to high cutting speeds typical of stainless steel finishing and semi-finishing passes. The screw-clamping holding method is compatible with standard CCGT toolholders using the C clearance and G tolerance specifications. The ISO code for this insert is CCGT09T301MN-SI. It conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards and carries the UNSPSC code 23242105.
Designed for use in CCGT-style screw-clamp turning toolholders with C clearance and G tolerance specifications, optimized for stainless steel (ISO material group M) turning applications on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and locked out per facility safety procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when seating the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping screw for wear or damage before installing a new insert. Verify correct insert orientation and seating before resuming cutting operations.
