The SUMITOMO 1HRJW09 is a DPMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC and manual lathes. Assigned ANSI code DPMT32.51 and ISO code DPMT11T304, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a positive rake angle of 8 degrees and an 11-degree relief angle. The AC820P grade substrate is coated with aluminum oxide (Al2O3) via a CVD process, delivering high wear resistance across a broad range of steel and cast iron applications. The ESU chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining operations where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are critical.
This insert is suited for finishing and light machining passes on steel and cast iron workpieces in production and job-shop environments. Its positive-rake, screw-holding DPMT configuration works in standard DPMT-compatible toolholders used by machinists and CNC operators in aerospace, automotive, general manufacturing, and die-and-mold work. The AC820P grade performs well across both P-class (steel) and K-class (cast iron) material categories, spanning high wear resistance to moderate toughness requirements.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use insert for DPMT-compatible turning toolholders accepting ANSI size code 32.51 (ISO size code 11T304) inserts. Suited for P-class (steel) and K-class (cast iron) primary workpiece materials.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians using the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the insert via the screw-holding clamp. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured before changing inserts. Inspect the pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing the new insert to avoid premature edge failure. Follow the toolholder manufacturer torque guidance for the clamping screw; do not overtighten.
