The SUMITOMO 1GRB005 is a solid carbide cutoff insert in the WCF series, designed for parting, grooving, and chamfering operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the AC830P manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied Al2O3 coating for thermal resistance and edge durability. The insert features a 0.1181-inch cutting width, a 1/128-inch corner radius, and an 8-degree left-hand lead angle, making it suitable for precision cutoff work where controlled chip flow and surface finish matter. It is held in place by a clamp-style toolholder and is not a multi-use reversible insert. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a dedicated WCF-series toolholder setup.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece materials including stainless steel and carbon steel, corresponding to ISO material codes M and P. It fits standard WCF series insert size code 3 toolholders. Typical applications include production cutoff, shallow grooving, and chamfering on turning centers in job shop and production machining environments. The AC830P grade with CVD coating is well suited for interrupted and continuous cuts on steel alloys where heat buildup and built-up edge are common concerns.
Designed for use with WCF series insert size code 3 clamp-style toolholders. Suitable for machining stainless steel and carbon steel workpieces. Compatible with material grades C5, C5A, and C6 classifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the turret is in a safe index position before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the WCF toolholder pocket and tighten the clamp fastener to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using calibrated tooling. Inspect the insert seating surface and clamp for chips or debris before locking down to prevent micromovement during cutting.
