The SUMITOMO 1G25020 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for precision parting, grooving, and chamfering operations on CNC and manual lathes. Built to the WCF series standard, it carries the AC225 manufacturer grade and features a CVD-applied Al2O3 coating for extended wear resistance at elevated cutting temperatures. The insert delivers a 0.1575-inch cutting width with an 8-degree right-hand lead angle, making it well-suited for consistent, repeatable groove profiles. A corner radius of 1/128 inch provides a controlled edge geometry. Chipbreaker style A supports chip management across a range of feed rates. At 0.3 pounds per unit, this insert is a direct clamp-style mount compatible with WCF-series toolholders.
This insert is intended for metalworking applications in machine shops and production environments. Its primary workpiece materials are cast iron, stainless steel, and carbon steel, covering material grades K, M, and P. The AC225 CVD-coated carbide grade is optimized for interrupted and continuous cuts on ferrous materials. Typical applications include cutoff operations, external grooving, and chamfering on turned components. It is suited for both high-production and job-shop settings where consistent tool life and surface finish are priorities. The clamp-style insert holding method allows fast indexing without disturbing the toolholder setup.
Designed for use with WCF series insert size code 4 toolholders. Compatible workpiece materials include cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), and carbon and alloy steel (P) per ISO material classification. No additional specific toolholder model numbers were provided in the product data.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a stopped, locked-out state per OSHA lockout/tagout requirements. Seat the insert firmly in the toolholder pocket and confirm the clamp is fully engaged before initiating any cut. Do not exceed the feed and speed parameters recommended for the AC225 grade on the target workpiece material. Inspect the insert edge for chipping or wear at regular intervals and index or replace as needed to maintain cut quality.
