The SUMITOMO 1AHB074 is a solid carbide indexable drill insert designed for use in indexable drill toolholders in machining and metalworking applications. Carrying the WDXT18G insert style with a manufacturer grade of ACP300, this insert features an 18 mm (0.7087 inches) inscribed circle and a thickness of 0.2362 inches. The PVD-coated parallelogram-shaped insert includes a G-style chipbreaker and a 0.0472-inch corner radius, delivering consistent chip control and edge integrity across a broad range of workpiece materials. It is suited for right-hand cutting operations and is installed by machinists and tooling technicians in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material compatibility, covering material codes K, M, N, P, and S. That range spans cast irons, steels, stainless steels, non-ferrous metals, and heat-resistant superalloys. Typical applications include drilling operations on CNC machining centers and turning centers where indexable tooling systems are used. The insert size code is 18, and the insert size designation is 186012, which corresponds to standard indexable drill insert sizing conventions used across the tooling industry.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for indexable drill toolholders that accept the WDXT18 insert style. Verify toolholder pocket geometry, insert size code, and cutting direction before installation.
Indexable drill inserts are installed and indexed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before removing or seating inserts. Use the correct torx or clamp-style key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to achieve proper seating torque — do not use improvised tools. Inspect the pocket seat for chips or debris before installing a new insert, as contamination in the seat can cause premature insert failure or poor hole geometry.
