The SUMITOMO 19W1BPC is a solid carbide turning insert in the CCMT style, designed for precision turning operations on steel workpieces. It carries the ANSI insert code CCMT21.51 and ISO code CCMT060204, with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape and a positive rake, positive side clearance geometry. The CVD-applied Absotech coating delivers high to moderate wear-resistance paired with controlled toughness, making this insert well-suited for finishing and light machining passes where surface quality and dimensional accuracy matter. The insert measures 0.252 inches in length with a 0.25-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0157-inch corner radius.
This insert is intended for use in screw-on style toolholders that accept CCMT-geometry inserts. It targets primary and secondary workpiece materials in the steel (P) category, with a material grade classification of P20. Typical applications include finishing passes and light material removal on low- to medium-alloy steels in both production-shop and job-shop environments. The ESU chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip formation during finishing and light machining cycles, helping maintain clean cuts and reducing the risk of chip re-cutting on the workpiece.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-on turning toolholders that accept inserts with ANSI size code 21.51 and ISO size code 060204. Suitable for steel (P-category) workpiece materials at material grade P20.
Installation is typically performed by a machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and all motion has ceased before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the manufacturer-specified torque wrench for the insert clamping screw to avoid cracking the carbide substrate or damaging the seating pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert.
