The SUMITOMO 19T5W40 is a CPMT-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual turning applications. Coated with TiAlSiN via a PVD process under the proprietary Absotech Bronze designation, this insert delivers high wear resistance suited to superalloys and powdered metal workpieces. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, a 0.375-inch inscribed circle, a 0.0313-inch corner radius, and a 0.156-inch thickness. The insert uses a positive rake angle of 20 degrees with a positive side clearance and is held in place by a screw-lock method. It belongs to the AC5000S series and carries the ESU chip breaker geometry, optimized for finishing and light machining operations. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for finishing and light machining passes on superalloys and powdered metal components. The AC5015S grade provides a balance of high wear resistance to moderate toughness, making it well suited for demanding material groups classified under ISO material code S. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible use in standard CPMT toolholders. The ESU chip breaker geometry promotes consistent chip control at finishing feed rates, reducing the risk of built-up edge on difficult-to-machine alloys. The insert conforms to both ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, with an ISO code of CPMT09T308N-SU and an ANSI size code of 32.52.
Designed for use in CPMT-style screw-lock turning toolholders. Compatible with applications involving superalloys and powdered metal workpieces requiring finishing or light machining passes. Conforms to ANSI size code 32.52 and ISO size code 09T308.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and in a locked-out, tagged-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp screw — avoid overtightening, which can crack the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seating surface for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Verify feed rate and depth of cut are within the finishing range appropriate for the AC5015S grade before resuming operation.
