The SUMITOMO 19T5BWT is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG style, designed for precision metal removal on CNC and manual turning centers. It carries the AC5015S manufacturer grade within the AC5000S series and features a PVD-applied TiAlSiN coating with the proprietary Absotech Bronze designation. The insert has a 3/8 inch inscribed circle, a 0.1875 inch thickness, and a 0.0078 inch corner radius. The ESU chip breaker geometry and 13-degree rake angle support stable, controlled cutting action. The neutral cutting direction and negative rake make it suitable for external and internal turning operations performed by machinists and CNC technicians.
This insert is engineered primarily for non-ferrous metals and superalloys, corresponding to material codes N and S. Typical applications include finish and semi-finish turning of aluminum alloys, copper alloys, titanium, and nickel-based superalloys. The ESU chip breaker geometry supports light to medium depth-of-cut passes where surface finish and edge consistency are critical. It is suited for aerospace, defense, and precision manufacturing environments where superalloy components are common and tool life consistency is a priority.
Designed for use in VNMG-style screw-lock toolholders with a clearance code N and tolerance code M. Compatible with toolholders and boring bars that accept VNMG 3/8 inch inscribed circle inserts per ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications. Primary workpiece materials are non-ferrous metals and superalloys (material codes N and S).
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to avoid damaging the insert pocket or screw threads; refer to the toolholder manufacturer torque specification, as no value is supplied with this insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and accurate tool height.
