The SUMITOMO 19T5APR is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. It carries the ANSI designation VNMG331ESU and the ISO code VNMG160404N-SU, and is manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. The insert features a TiAlSiN coating applied via PVD process under Sumitomo's proprietary Absotech Bronze designation, providing high heat resistance and edge stability at elevated cutting speeds. With a 35-degree diamond shape, negative rake angle of 13 degrees, and an ESU chip breaker geometry, it is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes in turning applications. Machining professionals and CNC operators install this insert in compatible tool holders as part of the AC5000S series.
This insert is intended for turning non-ferrous metals and superalloys, corresponding to material grade codes N and S. The neutral cutting direction makes it compatible with both left-hand and right-hand tool holder setups. Typical applications include external turning, facing, and contour work on materials such as aluminum alloys, copper alloys, titanium, and nickel-based superalloys. The ESU chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depth-of-cut scenarios where controlled chip formation and surface finish quality are priorities. It is used in production machining environments by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals.
Designed for use with VNMG-style screw-lock turning tool holders compatible with the AC5000S series. Suitable for primary workpiece materials classified as non-ferrous metals and superalloys under material grade codes N and S.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or qualified machine operators. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the tool holder manufacturer's specified procedure without over-torquing, which can crack the insert. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
