The SUMITOMO 19T2285 is a CNMA644-style solid carbide turning insert manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Carrying grade AC4015K with a CVD-applied Al2O3/TiCN multilayer coating marketed under the Super FF designation, this insert is engineered for negative-rake turning operations on cast iron workpieces. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry, and the neutral cutting hand makes it compatible with both right-hand and left-hand toolholders. An inscribed circle of 3/4 inches and a corner radius of 1/16 inches place this insert in a mid-to-large size class suited for medium-to-heavy stock removal on CNC lathes and turning centers.
This insert is primarily applied in cast iron turning operations, including gray iron, ductile iron, and hardened cast iron components common in automotive, heavy equipment, and general machining environments. The AC4015K grade targets the K15 material range, making it effective across a broad feed and speed envelope for cast iron. It is suitable for use in production turning cells where consistent tool life and surface finish repeatability are required. Machinists and CNC operators in job shops and production facilities are the primary users. The insert accepts both pin and screw insert-holding methods, accommodating a wide range of toolholder configurations.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CNMA644-style toolholders that accept negative-rake, 80-degree diamond inserts with a 3/4-inch inscribed circle and pin or screw clamping. Dimensionally conforms to ANSI CNMA644 and ISO CNMA190616 standards.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tool crib personnel. Before changing inserts, confirm the machine is in an E-stop or lockout/tagout state per applicable shop safety procedures. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before engaging the clamp pin or screw, and verify clamp torque with the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp components for wear or debris that could affect seating accuracy before each insert change.
