The SUMITOMO 19T2271 is a CNMA432 indexable carbide turning insert carrying the AC4015K grade designation. It features a CVD-applied Al2O3 and TiCN multilayer coating marketed under Sumitomo's Super FF designation, engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous turning operations. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape with a neutral cutting hand, a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Relief angle and rake angle are both 0 degrees, placing it in a negative-rake geometry. It is held in the toolholder via pin and screw mounting and is suited for machinists and CNC operators performing external and internal diameter turning.
This insert is optimized for turning cast iron workpieces, corresponding to material grade K15 and ISO workpiece code K. Typical applications include finishing and semi-finishing passes on gray iron, ductile iron, and hardened cast iron components on CNC lathes and turning centers. The ANSI code CNMA432 and ISO code CNMA120408 make it straightforward to cross-reference against toolholder seat requirements. The neutral hand orientation allows use on both right-hand and left-hand toolholders where the seat geometry accepts a CNMA-style insert.
Designed to seat in any CNMA-style toolholder accepting an ANSI CNMA432 or ISO CNMA120408 insert with pin and screw holding, clearance code N, and tolerance code M. Verify toolholder pocket geometry before installation.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolholder is secured in the turret or block before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torque screwdriver for the clamping screw and confirm the insert is fully seated against all pocket walls before torquing. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker area for debris that could prevent proper seating and cause premature edge failure.
