The SUMITOMO 19RJW3E is a CPMT-series solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the AC820P manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied aluminum oxide (Al2O3) coating that provides thermal resistance and wear performance during steel machining. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C), a positive rake angle of 8 degrees, and a relief angle of 11 degrees. The ESU chip breaker geometry is paired with a neutral hand orientation. With an inscribed circle of 0.25 inches and an insert length of 0.252 inches, this insert fits standard CPMT toolholders secured by screw clamping. It is intended for use by machinists and toolroom professionals running production or job-shop turning operations.
This insert is rated for primary workpiece material Steel (ISO material code P), covering a broad range of carbon, alloy, and low-alloy steels. It is suited for light to medium finishing and semi-finishing passes where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are critical. The AC820P grade spans material grades C5A, C6, C7, and C8, making it adaptable across a range of cutting speeds and feed conditions typical in production turning. The ESU chip breaker helps manage chip evacuation on continuous cuts. Both ANSI (CPMT21.52ESU) and ISO (CPMT060208N-SU) designations apply, supporting use in multi-brand tooling setups that reference either standard.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for standard CPMT-series screw-lock toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications. Compatible toolholder systems reference insert style CPMT, clearance code P, and tolerance code M.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Secure the insert using the appropriate torx or hex screw driver to the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping method — do not overtighten the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and screw threads for chips or debris before installation to ensure proper seating and edge repeatability.
