The SUMITOMO 19RJBPR is a solid carbide turning insert in the TCMT style, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the AC820P manufacturer grade with a CVD-applied aluminum oxide (Al2O3) coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a 7-degree relief angle. With a 1/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/64-inch corner radius, this insert suits finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge integrity and surface finish consistency matter. It is held in place by a screw-type clamping system.
The 19RJBPR is intended for use in turning applications where steel is the primary workpiece material, consistent with its Secondary Workpiece Material Code P designation. The ESU chip breaker geometry promotes chip control during light to medium material removal on ferrous components. The positive rake angle of 8 degrees reduces cutting forces, making this insert well suited to applications requiring tight tolerances and smooth surface finishes. It conforms to ANSI code TCMT21.51ESU and ISO code TCMT110204N-SU, allowing straightforward cross-referencing with toolholder specifications that accept the TCMT insert family.
Designed for use in TCMT-style screw-on toolholders that accept a triangular insert with a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 7-degree clearance angle (Clearance Code C), and Tolerance Code M per ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Verify toolholder pocket geometry against the ANSI code TCMT21.51ESU before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a full stop and lockout-tagout procedures applied. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw to seat the insert without cracking the carbide substrate. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination will affect insert indexing and surface finish results.
