Manufactured from solid carbide with a CVD-applied Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) coating in the AC820P grade, this insert delivers thermal resistance and wear durability when cutting ferrous materials. The 55-degree diamond insert shape (code D) provides a sharp, pointed geometry suited to profiling and contour turning. The neutral hand orientation and positive rake angle of 8 degrees reduce cutting forces and heat buildup. Chip breaking is handled by the ESU chip breaker geometry, which is optimized for consistent chip control across a range of feeds and depths.
This insert is intended for steel and steel-alloy workpieces, consistent with the ISO P secondary workpiece material designation. It fits standard DCMT toolholders using a screw-clamp (hole diameter 0.110 inches) holding method. Typical applications include finish to semi-finish turning of carbon steel, alloy steel, and similar P-category materials on production turning equipment. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and flush before resuming operation.
