The SUMITOMO 19RJ893 is a solid carbide CVD-coated turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. It carries the ANSI designation DNMG431ENG and ISO code DNMG150404N-UG, placing it in the DN series with a 55-degree diamond shape, neutral hand orientation, and a manufacturer grade of AC820P. The insert features a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, a 0.6102-inch length, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius. The ENG chip breaker geometry and CVD coating make it well suited for moderate to high-speed turning of steel and other primary workpiece materials classified under P and M material groups. Licensed CNC machinists and toolroom technicians are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is applied in turning operations targeting steel and mixed-material workpieces in both production and job-shop environments. The AC820P grade with CVD coating provides wear resistance at elevated cutting speeds. The negative rake geometry and N clearance code make it appropriate for rigid, stable toolholder setups. Compatible material grades include C5A, C6, C7, and C8, covering a range of coated carbide applications on steel (P) and stainless or mixed-material (M) workpieces. Typical use cases include roughing and semi-finishing passes on bar stock, shafts, and cylindrical components on CNC or manual lathes.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin insert holding. Compatible with workpiece material grades C5A, C6, C7, and C8. Primary workpiece materials are P (steel) and M (stainless and mixed materials) per ISO material classification. Tolerance code M and clearance code N apply to standard DNMG seating geometries.
Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and energy isolated per lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamp screw to seat the insert without over-torquing the clamp. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify toolholder compatibility with the DNMG431 seat size and the clamp-and-pin holding method before use.
