The SUMITOMO 19RJ857 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ANSI designation SNMG322ENG and the ISO code SNMG090308N-UG, with a manufacturer grade of AC820P and an Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) CVD coating for heat resistance and wear life. The insert features a square shape with a 90-degree included angle, a 0.375 inch inscribed circle, a 0.125 inch thickness, and a 0.0313 inch corner radius. It uses a neutral hand orientation with a positive rake angle of 4 degrees and is held by clamp and pin. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of routine tooling changes in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning, facing, and profiling operations where a square insert geometry is required. The ENG chip breaker geometry and AC820P CVD-coated carbide grade are targeted at steel workpiece materials, including general carbon and alloy steels classified under ISO P-class. It is applicable in both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on depth of cut and feed rate selection. The Al2O3 coating provides thermal barrier properties that extend edge life in continuous and interrupted steel cutting operations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for standard SNMG-style toolholders compatible with the SNMG322 insert size, including clamp-and-pin style holders. Confirmed secondary workpiece material compatibility is steel (ISO P-class). Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamp style before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians as part of standard indexable tooling procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before accessing the toolholder. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release the clamp or pin, seat the new insert fully into the pocket, and re-secure the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer torque specification. Inspect the insert seating and edge orientation before resuming cutting operations.
