The SUMITOMO 19RJ596 is a solid carbide turning insert in the CNMG542EGU geometry, coated with aluminum oxide (Al2O3) via a CVD process and graded AC820P. It features an 80-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code C) with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 7 degrees. The insert measures 0.6339 inches in length with a 5/8-inch inscribed circle, a 1/4-inch thickness, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. The EGU chip breaker geometry and Clearance Code N designation make this insert suited to precision turning operations in steel applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible toolholders for external turning work.
This insert is designed primarily for secondary workpiece material Steel (Material Code P), making it well suited to general steel turning in production and job-shop environments. The AC820P grade with CVD Al2O3 coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability at moderate to high cutting speeds. The CNMG style is a widely used four-sided indexable geometry retained in the toolholder via a clamp and pin holding method, allowing multiple cutting edges per insert before replacement. Typical applications include external cylindrical turning and facing operations on steel components in both light and moderate interrupted cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style indexable turning insert for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept 5/8-inch inscribed circle, 1/4-inch thick inserts with a clamp and pin holding method. Conforms to ANSI standard code CNMG542EGU and ISO 13399 code CNMG160608N-GU.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and secure the clamp and pin to the manufacturer-specified torque using calibrated tooling. Inspect the insert pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and edge alignment.
