The SUMITOMO 19RJ473 is a TPMT-style triangular carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on steel workpieces. It carries the AC820P manufacturer grade with an aluminum oxide (Al2O3) CVD coating, which provides thermal resistance and wear protection during continuous and light interrupted cuts. The insert features a neutral hand orientation, a 60-degree included angle, and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, making it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where surface quality and dimensional accuracy matter. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install this insert into compatible TPMT-style toolholders as part of routine insert indexing and replacement.
This insert is intended for turning applications on steel and similar ferrous materials in production and job-shop environments. The ENF chip breaker geometry is engineered to manage chip flow effectively during steel turning, reducing chip packing and heat buildup at the cutting edge. It suits both CNC turning centers and manual lathes equipped with screw-lock TPMT insert pockets. The neutral rake angle makes it versatile across a range of depth-of-cut and feed-rate conditions typical in steel machining.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for TPMT-series screw-lock turning toolholders configured for triangular inserts with a 0.2500-inch inscribed circle and a 0.1300-inch hole diameter.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing the insert, disengage the machine spindle and confirm the toolholder is fully secured in the turret or tool post. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure, avoiding overtightening which can crack the insert. Verify insert seating and edge condition before resuming cutting operations.
