The SUMITOMO 19RJ296 is a solid carbide turning insert in the VNMG style, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. The insert carries the AC820P manufacturer grade and features a CVD coating process for wear resistance and thermal stability under continuous and interrupted cuts. With a 35-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code V), a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.0156 inch corner radius, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where edge precision and surface finish consistency are critical. Licensed HVAC technicians and machinists in metal-cutting production environments specify this geometry for its predictable tool life and tight tolerance repeatability.
The 19RJ296 is intended for turning of steel and stainless steel workpiece materials, covering primary material codes M and P. The ENG chip breaker geometry is optimized for controlled chip formation during medium-depth passes on ferrous materials. This insert fits standard VNMG-style toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods, making it a direct fit in most production and job-shop turning setups where the VNMG 331 insert size is specified. It conforms to both ANSI code VNMG331ENG and ISO code VNMG160404N-UG under ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Designed for use in standard VNMG-style insert toolholders that accept a 331 insert size with clamp and pin holding. Compatible with material grades C5A, C6, C7, and C8 application ranges. Primary workpiece compatibility covers steel (P) and stainless steel (M) material groups per ISO classification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked before indexing or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and seating surface are clean and free of chips before seating the insert, as debris under the insert body will affect cutting geometry and edge life. Clamp and pin torque should follow the toolholder manufacturer specifications for the VNMG pocket style in use. Minimum order quantity for this insert is 10 pieces; plan inventory accordingly for production runs.
