The SUMITOMO 19RJ155 is a WNMG-style indexable turning insert in grade AC820P solid carbide with a CVD-applied aluminum oxide (Al2O3) coating. Designed for external and internal turning operations, this trigon-shaped insert carries an 80-degree included angle, a neutral hand orientation, and a 7-degree positive rake angle. The EGU chip breaker geometry is suited to general-purpose turning where consistent chip control and edge stability are priorities. With an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches, the insert fits standard WNMG toolholders used widely in CNC lathe and turning center applications. The ANSI code is WNMG431EGU and the ISO equivalent is WNMG080404N-GU.
This insert is intended for machining steel workpieces, consistent with its secondary workpiece material code P designation under ISO classification. It is appropriate for both roughing and semi-finishing passes depending on depth of cut and feed rate selection. The AC820P grade with Al2O3 CVD coating provides wear resistance at moderate-to-elevated cutting temperatures, making it a practical choice for carbon steels, alloy steels, and similar P-class materials in production shop environments. Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC operators working with compatible WNMG-style toolholders.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement turning insert for WNMG-style indexable toolholders accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick trigon insert. Compatible with toolholders specifying ANSI code WNMG431 or ISO code WNMG080404 geometry. Intended for P-class (steel) workpiece materials per ISO material classification.
Indexable inserts are seated and replaced by machinists or CNC operators during scheduled tooling changes. Before replacing an insert, power down and lock out the machine spindle per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the insert pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the new insert. Torque the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the insert or damage the pocket.
