The SUMITOMO 19RBALF is a solid carbide turning insert designed for metal cutting operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to ANSI code CNMG542EMU and ISO code CNMG160608N-MU, this insert features an Al2O3 (aluminum oxide) CVD coating applied over a solid carbide substrate for thermal resistance and wear protection at elevated cutting speeds. The EMU chip breaker geometry promotes positive rake cutting action, helping to control chip formation and reduce cutting forces. A neutral hand orientation makes this insert compatible with standard CNMG-style toolholders. It is intended for machinists and tooling specialists working in production or job-shop turning environments.
The 19RBALF is suited for general turning applications across a broad range of workpiece materials. The AC830P manufacturer grade and secondary workpiece material codes M and P indicate suitability for machining carbon steels, alloy steels, and stainless steels under moderate to high cutting conditions. The insert's universal secondary material designation supports versatility across varied production runs. Designed as a replacement turning insert for CNMG-style toolholders accepting a 5/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 1/4-inch thickness and 0.25-inch hole diameter, conforming to ANSI code CNMG542EMU and ISO code CNMG160608N-MU.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a locked-out, de-energized state before any insert change. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket seat and confirm the clamp and pin are properly engaged before resuming cutting. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for wear or debris that could affect seating accuracy. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque guidelines for clamping screws.
