The SUMITOMO 19RBAFO is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for general-purpose and finish turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a CVD coating in the AC830P grade, this insert delivers reliable performance across a range of metalcutting applications. The 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C) with a negative rake angle provides strong cutting edge support. The EMU chip breaker geometry is suited for moderate to light cutting conditions. With a 3/4-inch inscribed circle and a 1/16-inch corner radius, this insert fits standard CNMG toolholders used throughout production and job-shop environments. Installation and replacement are performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians.
This insert is intended for turning steel and stainless steel workpiece materials, classified under ISO material groups P and M. The AC830P grade and CVD coating make it a practical choice for both continuous and mildly interrupted cuts on low-alloy steels, carbon steels, and austenitic stainless steels. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholder configurations, adding flexibility on multi-operation setups. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on production lathes in industrial and manufacturing settings.
Designed as an OEM-style indexable insert for standard CNMG toolholders accepting a 3/4-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp and pin holding. Compatible with material grades C5, C5A, and C6 toolholder systems. Suitable for ISO P and M workpiece material classifications.
Insert replacement and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a locked-out, zero-energy state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the toolholder pocket and seating surfaces are clean and free of chips before seating the insert. Use the manufacturer-specified clamp screw torque as listed in the toolholder documentation — do not estimate torque values. Inspect the insert for cracks or edge damage before each use; do not run a damaged insert.
