The SUMITOMO 19RB297 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code VNMG332ENG and ISO code VNMG160408N-UG, this insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (V) with a neutral hand orientation. The AC830P grade uses a CVD coating process for enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, it is sized for medium-duty turning applications. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert as part of a clamp-and-pin toolholder system. It is rated for use on stainless steel (M) and carbon and alloy steel (P) workpiece materials.
This insert fits standard VNMG-style toolholders using a clamp and pin holding method. It is suited for residential and industrial machine shop environments where consistent chip control and surface finish are required. The ENG chip breaker geometry is designed for general-purpose turning on steel and stainless steel, making it a practical choice for production turning and job shop work. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and all axes at a safe position. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamp screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert. Never exceed the recommended depth of cut or feed rate for the grade and geometry as specified in the toolholder and insert documentation.
