The SUMITOMO 19PW158 is a VNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is manufactured from solid carbide and coated with aluminum oxide (Al2O3) via a CVD process using Sumitomo grade AC630M, providing wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (Shape Code V), a neutral hand orientation, a positive rake angle of 7 degrees, and an EGU chip breaker geometry. Inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, insert length is 0.6535 inches, and thickness is 3/16 inches. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible VNMG toolholders for production turning applications.
This insert is suited for turning operations on stainless steel and other secondary workpiece materials coded M under ISO classification. The AC630M grade with CVD Al2O3 coating is intended for finishing to semi-finishing passes where edge stability and heat resistance are priorities. It is commonly used in job shops, production machining facilities, and aerospace or medical component manufacturing where tight tolerances and consistent surface finish are required. The EGU chip breaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in these applications.
Designed for use in VNMG-style indexable toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. Compatible with toolholder systems using clamp and pin insert retention. Meets ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Material grade designations C5, C5A, C6, and C7 indicate suitability across a range of turning applications as defined by those classifications.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and torque the clamp or pin fastener according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installation to avoid insert rocking or premature edge failure.
