The SUMITOMO 19P7APK is a DNMG-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Manufactured in the AC8025P grade with a CVD coating, this insert is engineered primarily for steel workpieces. It features a 55-degree diamond shape (insert shape code D), a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The negative rake geometry and neutral hand orientation make it suitable for a range of turning, facing, and profiling operations. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments where consistent tool life and surface finish on steel are required.
This insert is suited for external and internal turning operations on steel components in both light and medium-duty cuts. The ESU chip breaker geometry is designed to control chip flow effectively during steel turning. The insert is held by clamp and pin methods and is compatible with DNMG-style toolholders following ANSI and ISO 13399 standards. Its ISO designation is DNMG150404N-SU, providing a direct cross-reference for toolholder selection and international procurement.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert with clamp and pin retention, conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or clamp screw driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert securely against the pocket. Inspect the toolholder pocket for chips or wear before seating a new insert. Follow the insert manufacturer and toolholder manufacturer guidelines for recommended cutting parameters when establishing feeds and speeds for the specific workpiece material.
