The SUMITOMO 19P7812 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert designed for metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the manufacturer grade AC8025P, a CVD-coated solid carbide grade optimized for steel cutting applications. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a negative rake geometry, and a EGUW chip breaker configuration that promotes controlled chip flow during continuous and interrupted cuts in steel. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.5079 inches, and the corner radius is 0.0313 inches (1/32 inch). This insert is a neutral-hand, non-wiper configuration suitable for general-purpose external turning.
This insert is intended for production and job-shop turning of steel workpieces on conventional and CNC lathes. The AC8025P CVD coating provides wear resistance and thermal stability at moderate to high cutting speeds in P-class materials (steel and cast steel). It fits standard CNMG 432 toolholders with clamp-and-pin holding. The EGUW chip breaker geometry suits medium-depth roughing and semi-finishing passes where chip control and tool life are priorities. Designed for use in standard CNMG 432 indexable toolholders with clamp-and-pin insert retention. Compatible with toolholder systems accepting a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick, 80-degree diamond insert. Verify pocket geometry and seating surface condition before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Before indexing or replacing inserts, disengage the spindle and confirm the machine is in a safe, locked-out state per shop lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces and tighten the clamp to the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque using a calibrated torque wrench. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for chips or damage before seating a new insert to prevent premature edge failure.
