The SUMITOMO 19HWCGK is a solid carbide turning insert conforming to ANSI designation WNMG432EEG and ISO code WNMG080408N-EG. It is designed for single-point turning operations on CNC lathes and machining centers. The insert features a dual-layer PVD coating of TiAlN and AlCrN applied under SUMITOMO's proprietary Super ZX coating process, which delivers elevated heat resistance and extended tool life at the cutting edge. At 0.3425 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, this insert suits medium-duty turning applications where dimensional accuracy and surface finish are priorities. It is installed and changed by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
The 19HWCGK is suited for turning stainless steel and superalloy workpiece materials, covering ISO material group codes M and S. The EEG chip breaker geometry is engineered for controlled chip evacuation in these demanding materials, helping to reduce built-up edge and maintain consistent cut quality. The neutral hand orientation allows use in both right-hand and left-hand toolholders. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling passes on production and job-shop lathes where tool life and chip control in difficult-to-machine alloys are critical performance factors.
Designed for use in standard WNMG-style toolholder pockets that accept clamp and pin insert retention. Compatible with toolholders dimensioned for a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch insert thickness, and 0.2031-inch hole diameter per ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications. Intended for secondary workpiece materials stainless steel and superalloy (ISO material codes M and S).
Install and change turning inserts only after the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe, locked-out state per facility lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket before engaging the clamp and pin; an improperly seated insert can fracture under cutting load. Use a torque wrench calibrated to the toolholder manufacturer's specification for the clamping screw - do not overtighten by hand estimation. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert to ensure proper support and edge geometry.
