The SUMITOMO 19HWAPA is a CNMG432ESU indexable turning insert manufactured from solid carbide and finished with a PVD-applied TiAlN and AlCrN dual-layer coating under Sumitomo's proprietary Super ZX designation. The insert carries an 80-degree diamond shape (ANSI code CNMG432ESU, ISO code CNMG120408N-SU) with a neutral hand orientation and a positive rake angle of 13 degrees. Manufacturer grade AC520U is engineered for demanding cutting applications. The ESU chip breaker geometry and 0.0313-inch corner radius combine to manage chip flow and reduce cutting forces in finish and semi-finish turning operations. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for turning operations on stainless steel and superalloy workpiece materials, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S. The ESU chip breaker geometry is suited for medium to finish passes where controlled chip evacuation and edge stability are priorities. Typical use cases include CNC lathe work on aerospace alloys, medical-grade stainless components, and other high-strength materials where TiAlN and AlCrN coatings provide heat resistance and wear life advantages over uncoated or CVD-coated alternatives.
Designed for use in CNMG-style turning toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin clamping. ANSI code CNMG432ESU and ISO code CNMG120408N-SU confirm dimensional fitment with any compliant CNMG432 toolholder pocket.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and verify the clamping screw or pin is torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specification before resuming cuts. Do not continue using an insert that shows visible edge chipping, cratering, or flank wear beyond acceptable limits, as degraded edges on high-strength materials can cause workpiece damage or unpredictable tool failure.
