The SUMITOMO 19HW366 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. It carries the ANSI designation DNMG431EUP and ISO code DNMG150404N-UP, identifying it as a 55-degree diamond-shaped insert with a neutral hand orientation. The insert features a PVD-applied dual-layer TiAlN and AlCrN coating marketed under the Super ZX designation, engineered to maintain edge integrity at elevated cutting temperatures. With a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, this insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes where dimensional control is critical. It is installed and managed by CNC machinists and toolroom professionals.
This insert is applied in turning operations on difficult-to-machine materials. Its secondary workpiece material ratings cover stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium, corresponding to ISO material codes M and S. The EUP chip breaker geometry and 10-degree positive rake angle support controlled chip formation in these tough alloys, helping reduce built-up edge and work hardening at the cut zone. Typical applications include aerospace component turning, medical implant stock, and high-alloy industrial shaft work where surface finish and tool life consistency are both required.
Designed for use in DNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick diamond insert with clamp and pin holding. Rated for turning stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium workpiece materials (ISO material codes M and S).
Installation is performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician. The machine spindle must be stopped and the turret fully indexed and locked before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate clamp screw torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can fracture under uneven clamping force. Verify insert seating and shim condition before resuming cuts, particularly when machining superalloys or titanium where interrupted cuts and excessive runout accelerate edge failure.
