The SUMITOMO 19HW177 is a WNMG431EEX AC520U grade solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external turning operations on CNC lathes. This trigon-shaped, 80-degree insert features a PVD-applied dual-layer TiAlN and AlCrN coating under Sumitomo's Super ZX proprietary designation, delivering a combination of wear resistance and toughness suited to difficult-to-machine materials. The EEX chip breaker geometry is configured for light to medium machining passes. The insert carries a neutral hand orientation and a negative side clearance, with an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches, a corner radius of 0.0156 inches, and an overall insert length of 0.3425 inches. Machining professionals and CNC operators install this insert as a direct indexable replacement in compatible toolholders.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning stainless steel (ISO material group M) and superalloys and special alloys (ISO material group S). The AC520U grade targets moderate wear resistance with toughness, making it well suited for interrupted or semi-continuous cuts in austenitic stainless and nickel-based superalloy components. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and profiling on production CNC lathes in aerospace, medical, and industrial manufacturing environments. The EEX chip breaker promotes chip control during light and medium depth-of-cut passes where consistent surface finish and tool life are priorities.
Designed for toolholders accepting WNMG431 (ANSI) or WNMG080404 (ISO) indexable turning inserts with clamp or pin clamping. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clamping style before installation.
Indexable turning inserts are installed and indexed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians. Power down the machine and lock out the spindle before handling or indexing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fastener for the clamping screw or pin to avoid insert cracking or seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, and confirm the insert is fully seated and clamped before resuming cutting operations.
