The SUMITOMO 19HW165 is a CNMG432EEX-style indexable turning insert in grade AC520U, engineered for demanding metal-removal applications. The insert features a dual-layer PVD coating - TiAlN and AlCrN - under the Super ZX designation, which provides elevated heat resistance and edge stability at aggressive cutting parameters. The diamond-shaped (80-degree included angle) carbide body measures 0.5079 inches in length with a 0.5000-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius. Clearance code N, tolerance code M, and a neutral hand orientation make this a direct fit for standard CNMG toolholders. The EEX chip breaker geometry promotes positive-rake chip control across a 16-degree rake angle.
This insert is intended for turning operations on difficult-to-machine workpiece materials, including stainless steel, superalloys, and titanium (ISO material groups M and S). It is suited for production turning on CNC lathes in industrial, aerospace, and energy-sector shops where consistent tool life and thermal stability in interrupted and continuous cuts are required. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators install and index these inserts during scheduled tool changes. The EEX chip breaker is optimized for medium cutting depths where chip evacuation on gummy or work-hardening alloys is a persistent concern.

Insert indexing and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine spindle fully stopped and the toolholder secured in the turret. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to release and reseat the clamping mechanism without over-torquing the pin or clamp screw. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's recommended clamping procedure to ensure proper insert location and prevent insert rocking under load.
