The SUMITOMO 19HMBPE is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC lathe and turning center applications. Formed in the CCMT insert style with an 80-degree diamond shape, this insert carries the AC530U manufacturer grade and features a TiAlN and AlCrN dual-layer coating applied via PVD process, marketed under Sumitomo's Super ZX proprietary coating designation. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 1/64-inch corner radius make it well suited for finishing and semi-finishing operations where tight tolerances and surface finish consistency are priorities. Installation is handled by licensed or trained machinists and toolroom technicians who work with indexable tooling systems.
This insert is intended for use in turning operations on ferrous workpiece materials, with stainless steel listed as a secondary workpiece material (ISO material code M). The ESU chip breaker geometry supports positive rake cutting action, which reduces cutting forces and helps control chip formation during continuous turning passes. It is compatible with CCMT-style screw-on insert holders that accept a 3/8-inch IC insert with a 0.1732-inch hole diameter and M tolerance class fit. Typical applications include OD turning, facing, and light profiling on CNC turning equipment in job shop and production machining environments.

Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine fully stopped and locked out per site lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the clamping screw as specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the screw or use impact tools on insert pockets. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or contamination before seating the insert, and verify the insert is fully seated before resuming cutting operations.
