The SUMITOMO 196CBPF is a solid carbide CVD-coated turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC and manual lathes. Manufactured to ANSI code CCMT32.52ESU and ISO code CCMT09T308N-SU, this insert features an 80-degree diamond shape, a neutral hand orientation, and a positive rake geometry. The AC6030M grade coating provides the wear resistance and thermal stability required when machining stainless steel and other difficult-to-cut materials. It is installed by licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is engineered primarily for turning stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material group M. The ESU chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip formation during medium-duty turning passes, reducing the risk of chip entanglement on long-chipping alloys. It is appropriate for use in finishing and semi-finishing operations where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy are required. The screw-holding method ensures secure clamping in CCMT-compatible toolholders across common turning centers.
Designed for use in CCMT-style screw-clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications. Specific compatible toolholder models were not provided in the available product data; verify toolholder acceptance of the CCMT32.52 insert size before installation.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine in a full stop condition and all axes locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to torque the clamping screw — do not over-tighten, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for debris or damage before seating the new insert. Handle carbide inserts with care; edges are brittle and can chip if dropped or impacted against hard surfaces.
