The SUMITOMO 196C360 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to ANSI code CNMG432EUP and ISO code CNMG120408N-UP, this insert carries the AC6030M grade with a CVD coating process for enhanced wear resistance and thermal stability. The 80-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting edge geometry with a neutral hand orientation. Corner radius measures 0.0313 inches, and the inscribed circle is 0.5000 inches. The EUP chip breaker geometry is engineered for stable chip control during continuous and interrupted cuts. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically specify this insert for high-volume turning operations.
This insert is intended primarily for turning stainless steel workpieces, including austenitic and martensitic grades where built-up edge and work hardening are common challenges. The AC6030M grade with CVD coating is suited for medium to finishing pass conditions where dimensional consistency and surface finish are priorities. The negative rake angle and CNMG style make it compatible with standard CNMG insert pockets on toolholders using clamp and pin holding methods. Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the machine spindle is stopped and the turret is fully indexed before seating or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex wrench to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure when tightening the clamp screw — do not overtighten. Inspect the insert pocket and locating pin for debris or damage before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and repeatable tool offset.
