The SUMITOMO 196C337 is a solid carbide coated turning insert designed for precision metal cutting in CNC and manual lathe operations. Manufactured to the WNMG432 ANSI standard and ISO designation WNMG080408N-GU, this insert features the AC6030M grade with a CVD coating process, engineered for high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness. The trigon 80-degree insert shape and EGU chip breaker geometry support light to medium machining operations. At 0.3425 inches in length with a 0.5-inch inscribed circle and a 0.0313-inch corner radius, it is a standard-format insert installed by machinists and toolroom technicians.
This insert is optimized for stainless steel (ISO Material Code M) applications where controlled chip formation and surface finish consistency are critical. The neutral hand orientation allows flexible use across a variety of toolholder configurations. The EGU chip breaker is suited for light to medium depth-of-cut passes on stainless steel workpieces, making this insert appropriate for both production and job-shop turning environments where material toughness demands a wear-resistant carbide grade.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for WNMG432 series turning inserts. Compatible with toolholders accepting WNMG432 (ANSI) or WNMG080402 (ISO) insert geometry with clamp or pin retention. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and insert seat dimensions before installation.
Installation of turning inserts should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician with the machine in a fully stopped and locked-out state. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or pin to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert seat and clamp for debris or wear before seating a new insert, as contamination can cause insert rocking and premature failure. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and machine guarding requirements during setup and test cuts.
