The SUMITOMO 194ABEW is a cermet turning insert designed for precision metal cutting operations on steel workpieces. Manufactured to ANSI code DNMG432 and ISO code DNMG150408, this insert features a 55-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake and side clearance geometry. The T1500Z grade cermet substrate carries a PVD coating for high wear-resistance. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle and a 0.03125 inch corner radius, the 194ABEW is suited to finishing and light machining passes where tight tolerances and surface quality are critical. Licensed HVAC technicians, machinists, and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert is intended for use on steel workpieces classified under ISO material group P, ranging from high wear-resistance to moderate toughness applications. The ESX chip breaker geometry is optimized for finishing and light machining cuts, making this insert well-suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes where controlled chip evacuation and consistent surface finish are priorities. It is compatible with DNMG-style toolholders that accept a 0.5 inch inscribed circle insert with a clamp or pin holding method.
Designed for use in DNMG-style turning toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle insert with clamp or pin clamping. Compatible with applications targeting ISO P-group steel workpiece materials.
Insert replacement should be performed with the machine fully stopped and all power or motion controls disabled per shop safety procedures. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the insert. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Follow ANSI and ISO 13399 guidelines for insert identification and handling to avoid mix-ups with similar geometry grades.
