The SUMITOMO 194A122 is a CCMT-style indexable turning insert manufactured from cermet substrate with a PVD coating and Manufacturer Grade T1500Z. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape (Shape Code C), a positive rake geometry, and an ESU chip breaker configuration. It measures 0.1398 inches in length, 0.1563 inches in thickness, and carries a 3/8-inch (0.3750-inch) inscribed circle diameter. A screw-clamping hold method and 7-degree relief angle complete the profile. Licensed HVAC and machining professionals recognize this grade as suited for finish and semi-finish turning where surface integrity and edge stability are the priority. The part meets ANSI and ISO 13399 standards.
The 194A122 is designed for turning operations on steel workpieces, classified under primary workpiece material code P. The ESU chip breaker geometry promotes controlled chip evacuation during continuous and light-interrupted cuts at moderate-to-high cutting speeds. This insert fits toolholders designed for CCMT pocket geometry with screw clamping, making it a straightforward drop-in for shops already running CC-series holders. It is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes where cermet PVD grades are specified for steel finishing. The ISO code equivalent is CCMT09T302N-SU, which can be used to cross-reference compatible toolholder manufacturers.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for CCMT-pocket toolholders using screw clamping, with an ISO equivalent of CCMT09T302N-SU. Suitable for holders specifying CC-series inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 5/32-inch thickness.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder specification — do not overtighten, as cermet substrates are brittle and can fracture under excessive clamp force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating to ensure proper contact and runout.
