The SUMITOMO 16RKWEG is a PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) turning insert designed for high-wear-resistance applications in precision machining. Conforming to ANSI insert code CNGA432 and ISO insert code CNGA120408, this insert features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape with a negative rake and negative side clearance. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 0.03125 inches (1/32 inch), and the insert thickness is 0.1875 inches (3/16 inch). Manufactured in the BN7500 grade, it delivers consistent performance when turning hardened materials and cast iron. Installation is typically performed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals using compatible CNGA-style toolholders with clamp and pin holding methods.
This insert is engineered for turning operations on powdered metal, cast iron (ISO material group K), and hardened materials (ISO material group H) where high wear resistance is the primary requirement. The WG chip breaker geometry suits continuous and interrupted cuts in these demanding workpiece materials. The uncoated bright finish is suited to applications where coating adhesion to the workpiece is a concern or where maximum edge sharpness is required. With two cutting edges per insert, it offers an economical service life in production turning environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement for CNGA432 or CNGA120408 style insert seats. Compatible with CNGA-style toolholders that accept clamp and pin holding methods. Confirm toolholder pocket geometry and clamping system before installation.
Installation should be performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling specialists familiar with indexable insert toolholders. Power down and lock out all machine spindles before handling or indexing cutting inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket for wear or contamination before seating the insert. Handle PCBN inserts with care, as the cutting edges are brittle and susceptible to chipping if dropped or impacted.
