The SUMITOMO 16JYDSC is a PCBN (polycrystalline cubic boron nitride) turning insert designed for high-speed, high-precision machining of hard and abrasive workpiece materials. Built to the CCGA insert style with an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) shape, it carries the BN7000 manufacturer grade and features a 3/8 inch inscribed circle and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The insert holds positive rake and positive side clearance geometry, making it well-suited for finish and semi-finish turning operations where surface integrity and tool life are critical. It is installed by CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production turning centers.
This insert is intended for turning cast iron, hard materials, and superalloys where high wear-resistance is the primary requirement. The BN7000 grade offers high wear-resistance to moderate wear-resistance and toughness against cast iron (ISO material group K) and high wear-resistance against special and super alloys (ISO material group S). Typical applications include finish turning of hardened ferrous components and nickel- or cobalt-based superalloy parts. The screw-holding method and CCGA toolholder interface make it compatible with standard negative-style tooling pockets adapted for positive-clearance PCBN inserts.
Designed for use in CCGA-style toolholders with a screw-clamping insert holding method. Compatible with primary workpiece materials including cast iron, hard materials, and superalloys per ISO material groups K and S. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clearance angle against the CCGA insert style before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque driver for the clamping screw to ensure proper seating without damaging the PCBN blank. PCBN inserts are brittle and should never be used for interrupted heavy cuts beyond their rated application range without confirming grade suitability with the manufacturer.
