The SUMITOMO 16JYDSB is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert engineered for high-speed, precision machining of hard and abrasive workpiece materials. It carries the BN7000 grade designation and features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 0.25 inch inscribed circle, and a corner radius of 0.0156 inches (1/64 inch). The insert uses a screw-holding method with a positive rake and positive side clearance, making it suitable for light to moderate cutting passes. It conforms to ANSI Insert Code CCGA21.51 and ISO Insert Code CCGA060204. Machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in compatible turning toolholders for finishing and semi-finishing operations on cast iron, hard materials, and superalloys.
This insert is intended for turning applications where tool wear resistance is the primary concern. The BN7000 grade is rated for high wear-resistance on cast iron (ISO material group K) and high wear-resistance on special and super alloys (ISO material group S). It is well-suited for CNC lathe operations in manufacturing environments where consistent surface finish and dimensional accuracy on hardened or abrasive materials are required. The neutral hand orientation allows use in a range of standard CCGA-style toolholders. The chip breaker code is A.
Designed for use in CCGA-style screw-on turning toolholders accepting a 0.25 inch inscribed circle insert with ANSI size code 21.51 and ISO size code 060204. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clearance angle before installation.
This insert is installed by licensed machinists or CNC tooling technicians in a controlled shop environment. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification. Inspect the insert pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating the insert to prevent improper contact and premature edge failure.
