The SUMITOMO 16JRCWH is an uncoated Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert designed for hard material machining applications. Manufactured to ANSI code NUTPGA222 and ISO code NU-TPGW110308, this insert features a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 0.25-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.03125-inch corner radius. The BN2000 grade PCBN substrate delivers the hardness and thermal stability required for interrupted and continuous cuts on hardened ferrous workpieces. Installed via screw-holding method with positive rake geometry, the 16JRCWH delivers consistent edge performance in high-wear turning operations.
This insert is suited for finish and semi-finish turning of hard materials, classified under primary workpiece material code H. Typical applications include hardened steel components, hardened cast iron, and similar ferrous alloys where conventional carbide tooling reaches its limits. The single cutting edge and NUTPGA insert style make it appropriate for precision turning on CNC lathes and turning centers in both production shops and tool rooms. It is sold individually and is packaged as a quantity of one per unit.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement for NUTPGA222 style toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 insert standards. Compatible with screw-clamp toolholding systems that accept TPGA-style triangular inserts with a 0.13-inch hole diameter.
PCBN turning inserts should be installed by a qualified machinist or CNC toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to torque the clamping screw into the insert pocket; do not over-tighten or use impact tools on the clamp screw. Handle PCBN edges with care, as the material is brittle and susceptible to chipping from improper seating or mechanical shock.
