The SUMITOMO 16HQWHH is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision material removal on non-ferrous metals. Built to the DNMX insert style with a 55-degree diamond shape, this insert features a neutral hand orientation and a negative rake angle of 0 degrees. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, insert length is 0.2441 inches, and the corner radius is 1/64 inch. Carrying the DA1000 material grade designation, the insert arrives bright and uncoated, preserving the sharp PCD cutting edge for direct application. It is suitable for CNC turning centers and manual lathes operated by skilled machinists working to tight tolerances on aluminum, copper, brass, and similar non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is used in turning operations on non-ferrous metals where surface finish quality and dimensional accuracy are critical. The LD chip breaker geometry helps manage chip flow in continuous and semi-continuous cuts. The pin and screw holding method provides rigid insert seating, making it appropriate for production turning environments where insert repeatability matters. It conforms to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, fitting into compatible toolholders designed for the DNMX insert family and Series D designation. Typical users include CNC machinists, tool and die shops, and precision parts manufacturers running high-speed finishing passes on non-ferrous components.
Designed for use in DNMX-style toolholders that accept Series D inserts with a pin and screw holding method. Compatible toolholders must accommodate an inscribed circle of 0.5 inches and an insert thickness of 0.1875 inches. ISO code reference: NF-DNMX150404N-LD.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine fully powered down and the spindle locked before touching the toolholder. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to loosen the clamping screw or pin per the toolholder manufacturer's torque procedure. Handle PCD inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edge during seating. Confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before resuming operation.
