The SUMITOMO 16HQW5V is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous metals. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the DA1000 grade designation and features an uncoated bright finish with a positive rake angle of 0 degrees. The diamond-shaped insert (DCGA style) has a 55-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. It is installed using pin and screw holding methods and is suited for CNC turning centers and manual lathes where tight tolerances and clean surface finishes are required on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials.
This insert is intended for use on non-ferrous metal workpieces, including aluminum alloys, copper, and similar materials where PCD tooling provides superior tool life and surface finish over carbide alternatives. The neutral hand orientation makes it adaptable to a range of turning applications. The DCGA insert style and the ISO code NF-DCGW11T304 allow straightforward cross-referencing for machinists sourcing replacements or specifying tooling for new setups. It is appropriate for both production and job-shop environments where insert consistency and grade repeatability are priorities.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fitment turning insert for toolholders accepting DCGA-style inserts with a 3/8-inch inscribed circle and pin and screw holding, conforming to ISO code NF-DCGW11T304 and ANSI insert standards.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked before changing inserts. Confirm the toolholder accepts the DCGA insert style and the correct seating pocket geometry before seating the insert. Use the appropriate torque wrench for the retaining screw to ensure secure clamping without damaging the PCD cutting edge. Inspect the insert seat and chip breaker pocket for debris before installation.
