The SUMITOMO 16HQEEW is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous metals and aluminum. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the CCMT21.51 ANSI size code and ISO code CCMT060204. It features an 80-degree diamond (rhombic) insert shape, a 1/4 inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64 inch corner radius. The uncoated PCD grade DA1000 delivers moderate wear resistance combined with toughness, making it well suited for stable cuts in aluminum and other non-ferrous workpieces. Licensed machinists, CNC operators, and tool-and-die professionals use this insert in turning centers and manual lathes.
This insert is intended for use on non-ferrous metals, including aluminum and similar soft, abrasive materials where PCD tooling outperforms carbide. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with standard CCMT-style toolholders that accept pin and screw holding methods. The LD chip breaker geometry supports light to moderate depth-of-cut applications. It is sold individually and is appropriate for production turning operations in both job-shop and high-volume manufacturing environments.
Designed for use in CCMT-style toolholders that accept pin and screw insert retention. Neutral hand orientation is compatible with standard right-hand and left-hand CCMT turning tool bodies. Verify toolholder pocket dimensions against ANSI size code 21.51 and ISO size code 060204 before installation.
Installation is performed by machinists or CNC setup technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to tighten the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer specification — do not overtighten, as PCD inserts are brittle and susceptible to edge chipping under side load. Inspect the toolholder pocket for debris or damage before seating the insert.
