The SUMITOMO 16DTCEE is a Polycrystalline Cubic Boron Nitride (PCBN) turning insert with a Titanium Nitride (TiN) coating applied via PVD process. Carrying the manufacturer grade BNC200, this insert is built for machining hard and difficult-to-cut materials on CNC lathes and turning centers. The diamond-shaped insert features a 55-degree included angle, a negative rake geometry, and 4 usable cutting edges. Insert thickness is 0.1875 inches and the inscribed circle diameter is 0.5 inches. With a 1/32-inch corner radius and a maximum depth of cut of 0.0150 inches, it is suited for finish and semi-finish turning passes where tight tolerances are required. Machinists and tooling specialists working in aerospace, automotive, and hardened-steel applications will find this grade well-matched to the demands of interrupted and continuous cuts on hard materials.
The 16DTCEE is designed for turning operations on hardened steels, heat-treated alloys, and other hard workpiece materials typically classified under secondary workpiece material code H. It fits into toolholders that accept the ANSI style 4NCDNGA432 or ISO equivalent 4NC-DNGA150408 insert seats. The holding method is clamp and pin, which is the standard configuration for negative-rake diamond inserts in this size range. This insert is appropriate for both production turning environments and job-shop applications where PCBN tooling is selected over carbide for its superior hot hardness and wear resistance in hard-material cutting.

Insert replacement and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Torque clamp screws according to the toolholder manufacturer specifications — do not over-torque, as PCBN inserts are brittle and susceptible to fracture from uneven clamping pressure.
