The SUMITOMO 16CDW66 is a polycrystalline diamond (PCD) turning insert engineered for precision machining of non-ferrous metals. Conforming to ANSI code NFVCMX220 and ISO code NF-VCMT110301, this insert features a 35-degree diamond shape with a positive rake angle of 10 degrees and a 7-degree relief angle. The coated PCD cutting material delivers exceptional hardness and wear resistance for high-speed turning applications. It is held in place via screw clamping, using clearance code C and tolerance code M. The 0.25 inch inscribed circle and 0.1252 inch thickness make it suitable for lighter toolholder systems demanding tight dimensional consistency. Machinists and CNC operators install this insert during production turning of aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpieces.
This insert is intended for turning operations on non-ferrous metals in both production and job-shop environments. The NFVCMX220 style is used in CNC lathes and turning centers where controlled chip breaking and surface finish on soft, abrasive, or high-silicon aluminum alloys are required. The X chip breaker geometry supports positive cutting action, reducing cutting forces and heat generation. It is a single-unit packaged item suited for tool crib stocking or direct machine-side use by machinists and tooling technicians.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement PCD turning insert conforming to ANSI style NFVCMX220 and ISO style NF-VCMT110301, compatible with Series V toolholders accepting screw-held diamond-shaped inserts with a 0.25 inch inscribed circle.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and the spindle fully stopped. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating the insert. Handle PCD inserts with care, as the cutting edge is brittle and can chip if dropped or impacted.
