The SUMITOMO 16CDBAF is a Polycrystalline Diamond (PCD) turning insert designed for precision machining of non-ferrous metals. Built to ANSI code NFDCMX21.51 and ISO code NF-DCMT070204, this insert features a 55-degree diamond shape, a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/64-inch corner radius. The positive rake geometry and 7-degree relief angle reduce cutting forces and improve surface finish on aluminum, copper, and other non-ferrous workpiece materials. Manufactured in grade DA2200, it is supplied uncoated and held in place via screw clamping. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling specialists install this insert in compatible turning tool holders as part of high-performance finishing and semi-finishing operations.
This insert is intended for turning applications on non-ferrous metals including aluminum alloys, copper, brass, and similar materials. The PCD construction delivers extended tool life compared to carbide in high-volume production environments. The X-style chip breaker promotes chip control during continuous turning passes. Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct application insert for Series D screw-clamp turning tool holders accepting DCMX-style inserts with clearance code C and tolerance code M. Compatible with holders designed for a 1/4-inch inscribed circle, 3/32-inch insert thickness, and 0.110-inch hole diameter. Verify holder specification against ANSI code NFDCMX21.51 or ISO code NF-DCMT070204 before installation.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing inserts. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key to secure the clamping screw without overtightening, which can crack the PCD substrate. Confirm insert seating is flush in the pocket and that the chip breaker orientation matches the intended cutting direction before resuming operation.
