The SUMITOMO 14HB317 is a solid carbide milling insert designed for precision metal removal in indexable milling operations. Manufactured to the ACP300 grade with a PVD-applied coating, this insert delivers consistent cutting performance in steel applications. It features a parallelogram (AXMT) insert style with an 85-degree included angle and an 11-degree relief angle. The cutting edge effective length is 0.472 inches, with a maximum depth of cut reaching 0.394 inches. Right-hand orientation and a 0.031-inch corner radius make this insert suited for controlled, repeatable passes in production milling environments. Licensed machinists and CNC tooling technicians are the primary installers.
This insert is intended for use in steel workpiece applications, classified under primary workpiece material code P. It fits the WEX2000 cutter series and is configured for right-hand cutting. Typical installation scenarios include face milling and shoulder milling operations on steel components in both job-shop and production environments. The insert size code is 1235, and the full insert size designation is 123508. Thickness falls within the 0.125 to 0.150 inch range, and length falls within the 0.450 to 0.500 inch range, consistent with standard indexable toolholder pockets in this size class.
Compatible with the WEX2000 cutter series. Insert size code 1235, full designation 123508, right-hand orientation. Designed for primary workpiece material code P (steel).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the spindle fully stopped and machine in a locked-out, de-energized state. Use the correct torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the insert; do not overtighten or improvise with substitute tools. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating the new insert, as contamination affects seating accuracy and tool life. Dispose of worn inserts in accordance with applicable shop waste and sharps-handling procedures.
