The SUMITOMO 12RJ712 is a solid carbide coated turning insert designed for precision external turning operations. Manufactured to ANSI and ISO 13399 standards, this insert carries the ANSI code TPG322 and ISO code TPG160308. It features an AC820P grade with a CVD coating process, a 60-degree triangular shape, and a positive rake with positive side clearance. The inscribed circle measures 3/8 inches, the insert thickness is 1/8 inches, and the corner radius is 1/32 inches. Licensed CNC machinists and tool crib operators use this insert for high-wear-resistance to moderate-wear-resistance turning on steel and cast iron workpieces.
This insert is suited for turning applications on steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K) workpieces where high wear resistance through moderate wear resistance and toughness are required. The flat-top chip breaker geometry and single cutting edge design make it appropriate for stable, controlled chip formation in both roughing and finishing passes on CNC lathes and turning centers. It is clamp-held and fits standard TPG-style insert pockets per ANSI and ISO 13399 tooling systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit turning insert for TPG-style clamp toolholders conforming to ANSI and ISO 13399 specifications. Compatible with ISO material groups P (steel) and K (cast iron) at material grades C5A, C6, C7, and C8.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Ensure the insert pocket and clamp surfaces are free of chips and debris before securing the insert with the appropriate clamp screw torque per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Do not exceed the cutting parameter ranges recommended for the AC820P grade and the workpiece material being machined.
