The SUMITOMO 10T5AQJ is a VNGG-style carbide turning insert designed for precision metalcutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the AC5015S manufacturer grade and is finished with a TiAlSiN coating applied via PVD process, sold under Sumitomo's Absotech Bronze proprietary coating designation. The insert features a 35-degree diamond shape (shape code V), a negative rake geometry at 20 degrees, and a neutral hand orientation. With a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thickness, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius, this insert is engineered for stable, controlled material removal in demanding turning operations. The G-style chip breaker supports consistent chip control across a range of feed rates. The insert is held in place by screw clamping.
This insert is suited for turning applications on difficult-to-machine materials, consistent with the AC5000S series targeting materials in the S10 material grade classification. Typical use cases include roughing and semi-finishing passes on lathes running ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces where TiAlSiN coating offers thermal and wear resistance benefits. The screw-lock holding method makes it compatible with standard VNGG-style toolholders. Installation is performed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
Designed for use in VNGG-style screw-lock turning toolholders accepting a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. Verify toolholder pocket geometry and clearance code N before installation.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine fully stopped and the spindle locked out. Use the appropriate torx or hex key to seat the clamping screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Always confirm insert orientation and hand designation match the toolholder before resuming cutting operations.
